Chelsea Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Goochland has earned a five-star rating for quality measures from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The achievement comes at a time of positive momentum for the 88-bed skilled nursing facility, which is recently rebranded and set to launch a multi-million-dollar renovation.
As part of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, CMS is responsible for quality standards in long-term care facilities through its survey and certification process; it gives each nursing home a rating of between one and five stars. Facilities with five stars are considered to have above-average quality.
Located at 2715 Dogtown Road, Chelsea (formerly Envoy at The Meadows) provides post-hospital, short-term rehab and long-term residential care. “Chelsea’s new five-star rating for quality measures reflects the dedication and hard work of its entire team,” said Megan Shilling, regional director of market development for Marquis Health Consulting Services, which supports the facility and will spearhead the renovation project. “The Chelsea team is thrilled with this achievement and remains focused on making their center a destination of choice in the region.”
Chelsea’s leadership includes its highly respected medical director, Dr. Ralph D. Hellams Jr., who has been part of the care team there for more than 10 years. Well known in the area, Dr. Hellams also has maintained his own practice, The Family Practice of Manakin-Sabot, for over 20 years. Previously, he worked with several established physicians through an HCA group practice.
“I am pleased to play an integral role in Chelsea’s next chapter,” said Dr. Hellams, who is a native of Richmond. “We are committed to providing progressive skilled nursing services to those in our care. At the same time, we are placing a further emphasis on recognizing and rewarding our talented staff and serving as a resource for the community.”
Chelsea will leverage Marquis’ expertise and established relationships as it develops new specialty initiatives in partnership with regional healthcare providers. Programming will be designed to meet regional demand.
